The Manila City Government has partnered with McDonald’s Philippines to expand the Senior Citizen Hiring and Deployment Program, creating more employment opportunities for senior citizens who are still capable of working.
Representatives from McDonald’s Philippines, led by Managing Director Margot Torres, paid a courtesy call on Manila Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso, alongside Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Hiroshi Umeda. During the meeting, McDonald’s pledged to increase the hiring of senior citizens in Manila.
Under the program guidelines, qualified senior citizens must be medically fit to work and will be assigned customer-facing roles only, excluding kitchen duties. They are required to work at least four hours per day, five days a week, and will receive free meals, uniforms, and personal accident insurance.
Mayor Domagoso welcomed McDonald’s continued support and expressed appreciation for the company’s contribution to the city’s employment initiatives. He highlighted the positive feedback from managers regarding the impact of senior employees in the workplace.
“I am after the productivity, that they are being valued, that they are given importance. Secondarily, meron sila konting income (they have a little income)”, the mayor said, emphasizing both recognition and financial benefit for senior workers.
Apart from the employment program, discussions also covered the Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center, a tripartite partnership between McDonald’s Philippines, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and local government units.

The Bahay Bulilit facility will serve as both a daycare center and learning hub for children aged two to four years old, providing access to early childhood education. The mayor welcomed the proposal, noting that many of Manila’s existing daycare centers could be integrated into the program, expanding educational opportunities for young children across the city.
This partnership underscores Manila City’s commitment to inclusive employment and community development, supporting senior citizens in the workforce while enhancing early childhood education initiatives through collaboration with private and government stakeholders.
