- Filipino-led EduTech firm Bitskwela has launched BitDev, a blockchain-enabled DML platform to help developers easily build, test, and deploy Web3 applications.
- The platform aims to transform existing Filipino Web2 developers into Web3 builders amid a huge talent gap only 203 out of 190,000 PH developers currently focus on blockchain.
- With features like a Live Editor and multi-language support, BitDev enables hands-on learning of real-world Web3 projects, boosting digital literacy and employability for IT students across partner universities.
The Filipino-led EduTech firm Bitskwela has rolled out a blockchain-enabled DML platform called 'BitDev' that simplifies the usually complicated process of creating, testing, and deploying Web3 applications for aspiring or learning software developers. In a statement last Friday, the firm said the release of BitDev addresses the gap identified by the 2023 report on Worldwide Blockchain and Web3 Developer Statistics, showing that only 203 out of 190,000 software developers in the Philippines focus on blockchain development.
With the mission of providing insightful education about Web3, BitDev wants to bridge this shortage of blockchain developers in the country by transforming existing Filipino Web2 developers into ready Web3 builders. At Bitskwela, we believe in bridging the gap by tapping into the potential of our already talented Filipino Web2 developers.
"Our vision is to turn the Philippines into a hub of world-class blockchain builders, and the BitDev platform is a step closer towards that", said Jiro Reyes, Chief Executive Officer of Bitskwela.
Using an Integrated Development Environment, a blockchain-enabled specialist software that global developers are already using, BitDev hopes to solve real-life problems that prevent Filipino web developers from engaging in Web3 technologies. This includes bridging the high learning curve of core concepts, aiding developers in understanding language constructs while building syntax and compiling, and teaching users how to manage "gas fees" when using blockchain.
BitDev is designed by developers for developers. Our goal is to make the platform as easy as possible to navigate the world of Web3. “This accomplishment marks Bitskwela’s role in making the Philippines keep up with the rising blockchain technology throughout the globe”, said Camille Puentespina, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Bitskwela.

Through BitDev, new developers can learn how to build their own real-life Web3 projects like web and mobile applications, smart contracts, blockchains, cryptocurrency wallets, decentralized exchanges, and decentralized apps. The core feature that enables this is the Live Editor tool, which provides a hands-on coding experience, as well as the potential to use different programming and scripting languages, including but not limited to Javascript, CSS, HTML, Python, Solidity, and Move.
These languages are also used in the available Web2 development courses offered as well in BitDev, further bridging the gap between Web2 developers and Web3 developers. In addition, Bitskwela has partnered with local universities like Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. and the Philippine Women’s University to bring BitDev closer to IT students.
"A breakthrough in the advancement of blockchain technology is the partnership of Dr. Yanga's Colleges, Inc. with the visionary Bitskwela. It excellently and effectively addresses critical social concerns on transparency, accountability, and integrity through a modern approach. Teaching this to the youth will make them vanguards of truth and integrity at present and in the future”, said Michael Yanga, president of DYCI.
Bitskwela also looks to integrate its platform into the curricula of these universities, providing students with self-paced technical modules, blockchain-issued certificates, and even the ability to develop their own applications on Web3. “By increasing digital literacy among the next generation of web developers, BitDev improves the employability of Filipino IT students while fostering their involvement in the growth of blockchain development in the Philippines”, said Vince Edralin, Chief Operating Officer of Bitskwela.
