BMW Korea Launches Green Skills Training for Elementary Teachers

    • New online environmental training program launched to upskill elementary school teachers across the country
    • The course supports the effective rollout of mandatory environmental education in schools
    • Free, nationwide program offers official professional development credits to teachers

BMW Korea Future Foundation has launched a new professional training program to strengthen environmental education skills among elementary school teachers across South Korea.

The foundation announced the rollout of the Next Green Teacher Training Program, an online course designed to help teachers effectively deliver environmental education in classrooms. The initiative comes as environmental studies became mandatory in elementary schools in 2023, increasing the demand for structured and practical teacher training.

BMW Korea Future Foundation has long supported environmental learning for students through programs such as Next Green and Junior Campus. With teachers playing a central role in shaping student awareness, the foundation developed this new program to focus specifically on educator upskilling and classroom readiness.

The training program is open to 3,500 elementary school teachers nationwide and is offered free of cost. It includes 15 online sessions and is officially registered with South Korea’s National Education Information System (NEIS), allowing participating teachers to earn professional development credits.

The curriculum moves step by step from basic environmental concepts to subject-based classroom applications. Teachers receive guidance on how to turn theory into practice through lesson planning and real-life examples. Core topics include environmental protection, climate change response, carbon neutrality, and sustainable mobility, along with practical content that connects environmental responsibility to everyday life.

By focusing on applied learning, the program aims to help teachers confidently integrate environmental education into multiple subjects. It also supports long-term skill development, enabling educators to guide students toward responsible thinking and sustainable behavior from an early age.

BMW Korea Future Foundation said the initiative reflects its commitment to education, sustainability, and workforce readiness in the education sector. The program is expected to play a key role in building environmental teaching capacity and strengthening green education across South Korea’s elementary schools.
