CityUHK strengthened its academic partnerships with universities in Shandong at the 'Shandong-Hong Kong Education, Culture, and Tourism Promotion and Negotiation Conference'. During the event, the University signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the University of Jinan and Shandong Jianzhu University to enhance collaboration. Mr Michael Ngai, Council Chairman, Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor, and Professor Li Wen Jung, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy) represented CityUHK at the conference.
During his address during the conference, Mr Ngai wished the conference to encourage mutual educational and economic development between Hong Kong and Shandong provinces by ensuring exchanges among the universities within the two places. "In this age of globalisation, exchange of scholars and research collaboration are specially important", he underscored. "This collaboration between Shandong and Hong Kong combines resources and improves research quality, while cultivating top talent, injecting new vigor into the future of both places and opening up more development opportunities".
President Boey and Ms Liu Chunhua, Party Committee Secretary of the University of Jinan, signed an MoU of sketching cooperation in faculty and student exchange, collaborative research projects and knowledge sharing. The signing of this agreement is a big leap forward in developing academic cooperation, research collaboration and talent nurturing between the two universities while providing a strong foundation for future collaborations.
In addition, CityUHK entered into an MoU with Shandong Jianzhu University to set up a model for cooperation in talent cultivation, student exchange programmes, and teaching and research activities.
The 'Shandong-Hong Kong Education, Culture, Tourism Promotion and Negotiation Conference' is among the highlights of the 2025 Hong Kong-Macao-Shandong Week. Organized by the Shandong Provincial Education Department, the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Hong Kong and Macau Work Office of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, the conference seeks to enhance mutual relationship between Hong Kong and Shandong in education research, cultural exchange, and tourism.
