Dibrugarh University Launches Japanese Courses For Students

    • Dibrugarh University, in collaboration with Mirai Japanese Learning Centre, launched Japanese language classes for 35 students under Assam’s CM-FLIGHT Scheme 2025-26.
    • The initiative aims to equip Assamese youth for global job opportunities, particularly in Japan, through language and skill training under the Specified Skilled Worker visa programme.
    • Supported by the Assam government, the scheme covers training, relocation, and visa costs, offering 100% placement opportunities in Japanese companies.

In collaboration with Mirai Japanese Learning Centre, Dibrugarh University started Japanese language classes for the first batch of 35 students enrolled under the Assam CM’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT) Scheme for 2025-26. The initiative is a significant step in preparing Assamese youth for global employment opportunities, especially in Japan.

The collaboration was formalized through an MoU signed on Sept 13 between Dibrugarh University and Mirai Japanese Learning Centre. This tie-up would introduce Japanese language courses specified and tuned according to the requirements, so students shall be able to meet the demand for a skilled workforce in Japanese-speaking markets.

"This collaboration with Mirai is a significant milestone for Dibrugarh University, marking a step forward in our commitment to offering world-class opportunities and education for our students", Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor Jiten Hazarika said.

The CM-FLIGHT is an ambitious Assam govt initiative, aimed at preparing the youth of Assam for overseas employment through foreign language and skill training. This pilot programme targets Japan, thereby providing Japanese language training and job placement support under the Specified Skilled Worker visa programme of Japan, targeting sectors with demand in Japan: construction, nursing care, food service, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, and food processing.

"Our aim is to create a direct pathway for students, not only to learn the language but also to secure jobs in diverse sectors. Learning Japanese will provide students with a deeper understanding of Japan's rich culture, improving cross-cultural collaboration. With Japan actively seeking skilled professionals, this initiative is poised to significantly enhance the employability prospects for students from Assam", said a Mirai representative.

The scheme is highly incentivized, with the government bearing most of the training costs and, in addition, post-placement relocation and visa processing. Applicants need to be permanent residents of Assam, aged between 18 and 45 years, medically fit, and with relevant skills and education.

The Mirai Japanese Learning Centre is well-acknowledged for the complete language program it offers to its students and gives a unique advantage in the form of 100% placement opportunities in Japanese-based companies, thereby helping students seek better paid jobs abroad.

The initiative will help strengthen Indo-Japan collaboration, increase the economy of Assam through remittances and skill transfer, and cover other countries and languages in the next phases, widening the scope for the state's youth in international job markets.
