DOLE Ilocos Empowers 425 Out-of-School Youths Through JobStart

    • 425 Unemployed Youths in Ilocos Join DOLE's JobStart Program offering skills training, internships, and employment support.
    • Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur & Pangasinan Beneficiaries Identified with each PESO location targeting 85 youth participants.
    • Participants Receive PHP400 Daily During Life Skills Training, followed by job fairs and internships with local employers.

    Four hundred twenty five Out-of-School Youths (OSY) who are unemployed in the Ilocos Region are enjoying the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) JobStart Philippines Program, which provides employment, internship, and skills training opportunities.

    DOLE Ilocos information officer Jenny Mapile announced on Thursday that recipients consist of 255 from Pangasinan, and 85 from Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur each.

    Mapile announced JobStart, available to Filipino citizens, aged 18 to 24 during registration, have attained at least high school level education (at least first year high school for 10-year basic education and Grade 7 for K-to-12), Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) during registration, and has no work experience or have fewer than one year of cumulative work experience, is being implemented in Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Calasiao and Dagupan City in Pangasinan.

    DOLE Ilocos Region chief labor and employment officer Teresa Bonavente, in another interview, reported that Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur are on recruitment stage while Calasiao PESO is nearing training and Dagupan City has a concurrent training.

    She explained that each of the four PESO locations has 85 beneficiaries this year. JobStart Philippines offers youth career guidance, life skills and vocational trainings, and employer internships.

    The qualified beneficiaries will undergo a 10-day training while they receive PHP400 per day. Then there will be graduation and mini jobs fair, and subsequently an internship program with employers", Bonavente explained.

    JobStart, which is institutionalized under Republic Act 10869, complements the employability of youth in cooperation with DOLE's Government Internship Program and Special Program for Employment of Students.
