The leadership of Khon Kaen University (KKU) received the new Socialist Republic of Vietnam Consul General to discuss enhancing cooperation in education and culture between the university and Vietnamese institutions.
The meeting was held on October 20, 2026, at the Sirikunakorn Building, KKU campus. University President Dr. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, Vice President for International Affairs Dr. Nawarat Wara-aswapati, and other university representatives received Mr. Dinh Hoang Linh, Consul General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen. The visit was a courtesy call and an exchange of ideas to discuss future cooperation, including student exchanges and collaborative academic work with top Vietnamese universities.
President Charnchai said that KKU is determined to build more partnerships in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), especially in education, economics, and culture. He cited a persistent interest among Vietnamese students to study at KKU, focusing on health sciences programs in the Faculty of Medicine.
So far, 109 Vietnamese students have received GMS Scholarships through KKU. KKU also has on-going academic and student exchange programs to promote mutual understanding and establish sustainable networks.

Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh described himself as honored to have the opportunity to meet the executive board of the university and emphasized the ever-evolving educational relationship between both countries. He went on to say that Thailand and Vietnam enjoy a very solid relationship in most sectors, which they will commemorate with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026. The relationship has been officially upgraded to a 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' built on three pillars: sustainable peace, sustainable growth, and a sustainable future.
For the future, the Consul General presented a number of potential collaborative projects between the consulate and KKU. Some of these are educational functions, Thai and Vietnamese language and culture workshops, arts and performance collaboration activities, and an exchange program for Thai and Vietnamese language professors.
Mr. Đinh Hoàng Linh commended Khon Kaen University for its good name among Vietnamese students and confirmed that he would extend further support to ensure continuous cooperation to strengthen the educational and cultural friendship between Vietnam and Thailand.
