Egypt and Japan agreed a letter of intent between the Egyptian Ministry of Education and the Japanese education development organization Sprix. Minister of Education and Technical Education and Secretary General of the Egyptian-Japanese Partnership for Education Hani Helal and Ambassador of Japan to Egypt Fumio Iwai witnessed the signing of the letter.
The accord is intended to enhance collaboration in the development of mathematics curricula, a tangible result of Minister of Education Mohamed Abdel Latif's recent visit to Japan, which further enhanced educational cooperation between the two nations.
The letter of intent was executed by Akram Hassan, the assistant minister for Curriculum Development on behalf of the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education, and Shinya Sayo, director of the International Department at Sprix, representing the Japanese party.
Japan is world-renowned for mathematics education, and this is the first time that Egypt and Japan have worked together on curriculum development. The venture aims to reformulate Egypt's mathematics curricula by gaining from Japan's rich experience on teaching mathematical sciences based on sound scientific foundations and the cultivation of the intellectual and analytical abilities of the learner.
In the signing ceremony, Minister Helal received the Japanese ambassador and Sprix delegation, emphasizing the strategic value of this partnership. He added that the Japanese model of education—focusing on acquiring core skills and advancing steadily toward higher-level competencies—will assist Egyptian students in improving their math skills.
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif also voiced his intent to establish on existing cooperation frameworks with Japan, aiming to expand collaboration in numerous aspects of the Egyptian education system.
During his remarks, Ambassador Iwai underscored the far-reaching scale of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Japan in various development fields. He reiterated his satisfaction with the introduction of this new education initiative and declared it an honor to see the application of Japanese experience to Egypt's education reform process.
On the 16th of February, 2025, Abdel Latif visited Tokyo on an official visit. The official reason for the visit was to further enhance collaboration and enable the sharing of expertise in education projects of common concern.
