Indonesia Strengthens Education Ties with Saudi Arabia

    • Indonesia plans to expand student exchanges and educational cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
    • Many Indonesian students study in Saudi universities, while Saudi students are welcomed in Indonesian Islamic institutions.
    • Both countries aim to deepen collaboration in scholarships, research, and youth education programs.

Indonesia is keen to strengthen educational cooperation with Saudi Arabia, focusing on student exchanges, scholarships, and collaborative research. This was highlighted by Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, during the celebration of Saudi Arabia’s 95th National Day in Jakarta.

Indonesia already has a strong educational connection with Saudi Arabia. Many Indonesian students pursue higher studies at Saudi universities, especially in Islamic studies. At the same time, Saudi students attend Indonesian institutions, enriching cultural and academic exchanges between the two nations. Indonesia now aims to build on this foundation by encouraging more student mobility and scholarship opportunities.

Minister Nasaruddin emphasized that education cooperation is key to nurturing future leaders and fostering mutual understanding. Both countries are working to develop joint programs that support youth empowerment, research collaboration, and ethical scientific advancements based on shared values.

Beyond education, Indonesia is also interested in growing partnerships in renewable energy, digital economy, and infrastructure. However, education remains a priority as it strengthens people-to-people ties and creates a lasting bond between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
