Japan Advances Cambodia's Digital Education and Teacher Training

    • 46 desktop computers provided to teacher training schools in Cambodia.
    • Initiative strengthens digital learning and teacher training reforms.
    • Focus on skills development, modern classrooms, and job-ready teachers.

Cambodia’s move to modernize education received a boost as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) donated 46 desktop computers to primary schools attached to Teacher Education Colleges (TECs) in Phnom Penh and Battambang.

Funded through the KINOLD Yasuaki Sugimoto Memorial Foundation, the computers aim to strengthen digital learning for students and improve teacher training programs. The handovers on February 25 and 26 mark a significant step in Cambodia-Japan collaboration in education.

These primary schools act as training grounds where future teachers observe, practice, and refine classroom skills. Equipping them with ICT tools ensures that trainee teachers learn to integrate technology into their lessons, preparing them for modern classrooms and boosting career-ready skills.

JICA has long supported Cambodia’s education reforms, including building TECs, improving teaching facilities, and offering professional development for educators. This latest initiative aligns with national efforts to bridge the digital gap and enhance curriculum quality, making digital literacy central to learning.

Education experts say that embedding technology into teacher training helps improve teaching quality and student outcomes. JICA confirmed it will continue collaborating with Cambodia’s Ministry of Education to advance digital education and strengthen bilateral ties.
