Japan-Philippines Education Ties Grow at Kyushu University Forum

    Japan’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Endo Kazuya, took part in the Kyushu University Forum: KYUDAI NOW-Manila Edition on February 11, reinforcing growing academic and innovation ties between Japan and the Philippines. The forum was held at the University of the Philippines Diliman and brought together educators, researchers, and students from both countries.

    Senior academic leaders also attended the event, including UP Vice President for Research and Innovation Dr. Joel Joseph S. Marciano Jr. and Kyushu University Vice President Prof. Shimizu Shuji. Their presence highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration in education and research.

    Organized by the Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies, the forum showcased recent research by Kyushu University faculty and alumni. Sessions covered key areas such as engineering, agriculture, medicine, design, and education, along with discussions on career and skill development linked to the university.

    In his remarks, Ambassador Endo emphasized that academic exchanges play a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations. He noted that partnerships between universities help develop skilled talent, encourage innovation, and create shared opportunities for students and researchers. He also expressed confidence that Kyushu University’s strong research culture would continue to support joint ambitions between the two nations.

    The forum was part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Japan friendship, endorsed by the Japanese Embassy. By connecting education with skills and career pathways, the event underscored how academic cooperation can support future jobs and long-term regional growth.
