Khalifa University of Science and Technology recently hosted the ‘AI Futures Summit: Empowering Higher Education,’ a two day event that brought together policymakers, university leaders, and international AI experts. The summit focused on how artificial intelligence can transform higher education and support the UAE’s goal of building future ready academic institutions.
Inaugurated by Dr. Mohammad Al Mualla, Undersecretary of Higher Education at the UAE Ministry of Education, the summit also saw participation from global leaders like Sayasat Nurbek, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education. Discussions centered on AI driven innovation, trust, and how universities can contribute to the country’s AI vision.
Key sessions included insights from Khalifa University President Prof. Ebrahim Al Hajri and other university chancellors, emphasizing the vital role higher education plays in AI research and development. The summit featured over 50 speakers and included workshops on AI integration in teaching, healthcare, and research management.

Prof. Al Hajri highlighted the UAE’s proactive steps, such as making AI a mandatory subject in schools and the Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy, which aims to make the emirate a global leader in AI driven governance. The event positioned Abu Dhabi as a key hub for AI dialogue in education, reinforcing the importance of academic institutions in shaping the future of AI.
