MDIS & Sunderland University to Launch Sustainability Centre

    • MDIS and University of Sunderland to establish a joint Sustainability Research Centre in Singapore
    • Initiative to support Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and net-zero goals
    • Focus on applied sustainability, innovation, and workforce skill development

The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) and the University of Sunderland have announced plans to launch the MDIS-University of Sunderland Centre for Applied Sustainability Research and Innovation, marking a new milestone in their 20-year education partnership.

Revealed at the Innovate for a Green Future event in Singapore, the initiative represents a landmark collaboration between a private Singaporean institution and a UK university. The Centre aims to align with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and support the nation’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through applied sustainability research, innovation, and workforce development.

The Centre will focus on three key areas of Circular Manufacturing and Resilient Supply Chains, Green Economy and Business Transformation, and Sustainable Tourism and Urban Hospitality, bridging the gap between academic research and real-world applications.

Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sunderland, said the partnership extends the university’s sustainability research beyond the UK, positioning it as a global leader in environmental innovation.
