Monash University Launches ASEAN Awards to Support Southeast Asian Students

    • Monash University announces $2.5 million ASEAN Awards for high achieving undergraduate students.
    • Awards offer full study support, including tuition, travel, relocation, and visa assistance.
    • Open to students from all 10 ASEAN countries, starting Semester 1, 2026.

Monash University has launched the Vice Chancellor’s ASEAN Awards, a $2.5 million program aimed at supporting high performing undergraduate students from Southeast Asia to study at its campuses starting Semester 1, 2026.

The new initiative is open to students from all 10 ASEAN countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The awards aim to reduce the financial burden of studying abroad by bundling tuition support, travel and relocation assistance, visa fee coverage, and other services into a single, comprehensive package.

Professor Sharon Pickering, Vice Chancellor and President of Monash University, said the awards reflect the university’s commitment to making global education more accessible. “Monash is proud to support the next generation of leaders and changemakers from ASEAN nations”, she said.

The program will use a competitive selection process with country based quotas to ensure wide representation from across the region. It targets top academic talent and aims to deepen regional ties through education and shared innovation.

Julian Hill MP, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Education, welcomed the initiative, calling it a powerful step in strengthening Australia’s connection with the Indo-Pacific. “International education enriches both our nations and builds stronger cultural and economic ties”, he said.

The Vice Chancellor’s ASEAN Awards are part of Monash’s broader push to strengthen partnerships and expand global opportunities for students in Asia. The program is expected to build lasting connections and promote a more inclusive and collaborative future across the region.
