A new super magnet manufacturing facility worth RM 600 million in development within Kuantan is set to catapult Pahang into a fresh cycle of economic growth and job creation, marking yet another milestone for Malaysia as it climbs the value chain of rare earth elements. The high-impact project, developed jointly by South Korea's JS Link and Lynas Malaysia, will be involved in the production of neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnets-a crucial component found in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and other high-tech applications.
Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the investment would not only attract both local and international players but also generate substantial employment opportunities, benefiting the people of Pahang and driving regional industrial development. “I welcome the establishment of this super magnet facility because with fresh investments, we can generate jobs. More people will be employed, drawing more talent to Pahang”, he said.
Wan Rosdy made this statement in a press conference after representing the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a meet-and-greet session with Kuantan industry players at the Advanced Technology Training Centre (Adtec). He said the project will create various employment opportunities, not only in technical and engineering fields but also in logistics, operations, and research areas, thereby enhancing job opportunities for locals and slowing down the brain drain from the state.

The Menteri Besar also said that the state government would continue its cooperation with federal authorities to ensure the smooth execution of the project. “Further discussions with the federal government will be conducted, and the state will provide its views and inputs to support the growth of this industry”, he said.
If the facility becomes operational, it will mark Pahang’s positioning as a critical hub for activities in the downstream rare earth and advanced manufacturing sectors. As the world economy increasingly shifts toward clean energy technologies and electric mobility, driven by growing demand, the establishment of the plant would have a ripple effect throughout related industries, creating new business opportunities for local suppliers and service providers alike. This initiative underlines Malaysia’s broader goal of achieving a balance between industrial growth and sustainable economic empowerment through the creation of high-value jobs, coupled with innovation-driven development.
