Pocheon Launches Blended Learning Linking Online and Local Centers

    • Pocheon City integrates Self-Directed Learning Centers with Gyeonggi Online School to create a seamless blended learning experience
    • The model boosts students’ self-directed learning skills while helping reduce educational gaps caused by regional and household differences
    • Flexible and community-based learning spaces enhance student participation, engagement, and offer a scalable approach for public education support

Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province has successfully implemented a new blended education model that connects the Self-Directed Learning Centers run by the Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) with real-time video classes from Gyeonggi Online School. The program aims to reduce learning gaps caused by regional and household differences, prevent learning loss, and help students build strong self-directed learning skills.

On January 20, students participated in live online classes at the Idong Small Library, a mobile Self-Directed Learning Center. Representatives from EBS and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education observed the sessions and recorded the activities, highlighting how online expertise and offline learning spaces can work together effectively.

Students attended live video lectures and continued learning afterward using the center’s facilities for follow-up study. Pocheon City confirmed that this combination of online instruction and immersive public learning spaces is functioning effectively in real educational settings.

A Pocheon City official said, “This link between Self-Directed Learning Centers and Gyeonggi Online School overcomes time and space limitations. We aim to expand this model further, ensuring students have fairer access to quality educational opportunities”.
