- Queensland's Crisafulli Government is leading a major trade mission to Asia, promoting education, research, and innovation after years of sectoral decline under previous leadership.
- A 37-member delegation will visit Taiwan and Japan, culminating in a key showcase at World Expo 2025 in Osaka to boost Queensland’s global presence.
- With international education valued at $6.85 billion and supporting 30,000 jobs, the mission aims to strengthen partnerships and reaffirm Queensland’s position in global education markets.
The Crisafulli Government is making a significant international trade mission to reinvigorate Queensland's education, research, and innovation industries sectors which stalled due to years of neglect and lost opportunity by the previous Labor Government.
Headed by Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Ros Bates, the delegation is supporting 37 of Queensland's top-performing universities, training providers, and institutions to secure new opportunities throughout Asia.
The delegation will hold top-level talks in Taiwan and Japan, capped with a grand exhibition at World Expo 2025 in Osaka - an international stage that the former Labor Government missed out on which left Queensland on the sidelines as a global player.
The visit is in line with the new Queensland-Japan Trade and Investment Strategy 2025-2028, which sets out practical actions to increase co-operation in education, research, and commercialisation, aligning Queensland's capabilities with Japan's future opportunities.
The Minister will attend a large Queensland reception at the Australia Pavilion in Osaka with Japanese government officials, alumni, and education leaders.
International education continues to be Queensland's largest services export, valued at $6.85 billion and underpinning some 30,000 jobs. Over 157,000 international students from 160 nations were enrolled in Queensland in 2024. Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the trade mission would signal that Queensland is open for business.
"The Crisafulli Government is committed to outcomes, jobs, investment and long-term partnerships that make a difference for Queenslanders", Minister Bates said.
"We're selling Queensland's best to the world and bringing new opportunities back home. This is a government that supports industry, builds trust, and gets the job done after decades of Labor drift, Queensland is once again on the map".
