Sahmyook University has entered into a partnership with Tongyang University to create a groundbreaking educational collaboration platform that focuses on the intersection of health and aviation. This alliance is part of a broader strategy to respond to the government's emphasis on inter-university cooperation and consortium-based educational models, especially in the Seoul metropolitan area. By joining forces, the two institutions aim to enhance their competitiveness and drive innovation in higher education.
The partnership was formalized on February 25 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Grand Conference Room of Sahmyook University’s Centennial Memorial Hall. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Je Haejong, President of Sahmyook University, and Choi Jaewook, President of Tongyang University, along with senior executives and other key stakeholders from both universities.
This collaboration was formed to facilitate resource sharing and create a practical framework for cooperation in response to the rapidly evolving higher education landscape. Both universities are committed to aligning with government initiatives such as the RISE and Glocal University 30 projects, which focus on fostering greater inter-university collaboration. By working together, Sahmyook and Tongyang Universities aim to strengthen their joint academic and operational capabilities.
The agreement outlines several areas of cooperation, including joint industry-academic projects, specialized programs in aviation, healthcare, and medicine, and the development of shared curricula. One of the primary goals is to enhance student learning and career readiness by combining Sahmyook’s expertise in health sciences with Tongyang’s strengths in aviation. This convergence of disciplines will enable students to gain valuable skills and knowledge that span both fields, with a particular focus on practical training in each area.
The universities will also introduce a comprehensive credit exchange system, allowing students to cross-register for courses and earn credits for major subjects from both institutions. Additionally, they plan to develop new joint certification programs, such as micro-degrees, in the field of health-aviation convergence, giving students the opportunity to specialize in a rapidly growing area of industry demand.

Another significant aspect of the agreement is the joint recruitment of international students, leveraging the global appeal of K-Culture combined with specialized vocational education. This initiative will not only bring international students to both universities but will also enhance the diversity of the student body and provide opportunities for cross-cultural exchange.
Sahmyook University and Tongyang University also plan to respond to government and local government funding projects, seeking opportunities for collaborative research and development. By operating project-based learning (PBL) courses in partnership with airlines, medical institutions, and other industries, the universities aim to build a solid foundation for industry-academic cooperation.
Je Haejong, President of Sahmyook University, expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement, calling it a new starting point for innovative educational collaboration. He said, "This agreement marks the starting point for presenting a new educational cooperation model by linking the specialized fields of both universities". He added that the partnership would focus on student-centered, practical collaboration to continue enhancing the universities' competitiveness in an ever-changing educational environment.
Through this strategic partnership, both universities are set to create a dynamic learning ecosystem that combines the best of health and aviation sectors, preparing students for a future that demands expertise in both fields.
