- SAU and China’s Lanzhou University ink a five year MoU for joint research and academic exchange

Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, and Lanzhou University (LZU), China, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on deepening academic ties, joint research, and capacity building in agricultural sciences.
On SAU’s side, the agreement was signed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, along with Prof. Tanveer Fatima Miano (Director ORIC) and Prof. Shah Nawaz Mari (Focal Person). In China, it was signed by LZU President Prof. Dr. Yang Yongping, Mr. Chi Gang (Director of International Cooperation), and Prof. Dr. Zhang Jiyu (Focal Person).
Under this five year MoU, both universities will launch joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, training workshops, and conferences. SAU’s MSc and PhD students may get opportunities to continue studies at Lanzhou University, subject to admissions and funding.
The collaboration will center on strategic disciplines including plant breeding and genetics, stress physiology, biotechnology, and climate resilient agriculture. The aim is to drive sustainable agriculture by leveraging global expertise and shared innovation.

Vice Chancellor Siyal emphasized that the MoU would strengthen SAU’s global academic links and allow students and faculty to engage with international research standards. To oversee this partnership, a joint coordination committee with representatives from both institutions will be established to monitor implementation and ensure the MoU’s goals are met.
This agreement underscores the growing importance of cross‑border education and research cooperation in Asia, especially in areas critical to food security and climate resilience.
