Shrewsbury School UK Opens South-Asian Campus in India

    • Shrewsbury School UK opens its first fully residential South-Asian campus in Bhopal, India, in partnership with Jagran Social Welfare Society.

    In a historical moment, the 473-year-old Shrewsbury School UK partnered with India's leading education trust, Jagran Social Welfare Society to open Shrewsbury International School India in Bhopal, Central India on August 8th.

    Spans over a verdant green expansive 150-acre campus, the first South-Asian, residential campus of Shrewsbury School UK. The event was a historic milestone for Shrewsbury UK that marked the opening of its first fully residential campus outside the United Kingdom.

    India's leading education trust Jagran Social Welfare Society partnered with Shrewsbury School UK in February 2023, to introduce a world-class British educational heritage to Central India.

    Stealing a moment to express joy at the opening of the school, His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner to Western India, Mr. Harjinder Kang said, "Last month our Prime Ministers signed off on the new 'India-UK Vision 2035', a pledge to realising the full potential of our renewed partnership". The vision also entails an education and skills collaboration to develop the next generation of international talent and strengthen transnational education cooperation among UK and Indian universities.

    The inauguration ceremony was attended by a prestigious audience of the who's who, such as Indian Minister Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia; Mrs. Carla Howarth, Chair of the Advisory Board of Governors at Shrewsbury International School India and Chair of the International Development Committee at Shrewsbury School UK; Mr. Tim Haynes, Ex-Chair The Board of Governors at Shrewsbury School UK and a Member of the Advisory Board of Governors at Shrewsbury International School India; Shri Hari Mohan Gupta, Chairman of Jagran Welfare Society and Mr. Abhishek Mohan Gupta, President - Board of Management at Shrewsbury International School India.

    Speaking on the robust Indo-British educational cooperation at the very core of Shrewsbury India, Mrs. Carla Howarth said, "It is immensely satisfying to witness the enduring Salopian values - born out of Shrewsbury's tradition become an integral part of the educational process in India. The opening of our first fully residential campus outside the UK is a defining moment for the international Shrewsbury community".

    Reiterating this emotion, Shri Hari Mohan Gupta, Jagran Welfare Society Chairman, further stated, "At Shrewsbury India, we hope to enable tomorrow's innovators and future leaders - individuals who will lead with purpose, overcome academic obstacles and make a positive contribution to society".
