    • New initiative aligns with the Centre’s 2026 nationwide academic plans, reinforcing its mission of community upliftment and long-term educational empowerment

The Sri Murugan Centre, a long-serving educational non-governmental organisation committed to empowering Malaysian Indian students, announced the latest leap in its mission to empower the community with the launch of a new initiative titled 'Thanthai Manam'. The programme is expected to play a major role in shaping the academic future of 100 students by providing both financial and academic support to help them continue their studies.

The announcement was made during the institute’s annual key event, which brings together organisers, educators, volunteers, and stakeholders to celebrate the progress in the past year and map out strategies for the coming year. Director Surain Kanda expressed pride in the successful execution, saying that the occasion underlined not only the Centre's achievements but also the collective efforts which have gone into ensuring that the Centre continued to grow.

He extended deep appreciation to the organizers and volunteers whose hard work and selflessness remain a sustaining force in the organization's activities. For him, the spirit of service and shared commitment to upliftment were what allowed Sri Murugan Centre to continue fulfilling its mission year after year.

The highlight of this year's gathering was the official launching of the 'Thanthai Manam' initiative, an important milestone for the NGO. The programme is designed to assist deserving Malaysian Indian students academically by offering support worth RM122,000. By contributing in this manner, the Centre hopes to alleviate obstacles relating to finances for many families and ensure that capable children in those families do not have to stop their education owing to financial constraints.

Beyond money, the initiative places important emphasis on academic guidance and mentorship for building skills to support all-round growth among recipients. For Sri Murugan Centre, the scheme is more than an educational aid programme; it is an investment in community advancement and long-term social empowerment.

Launching Thanthai Manam also ushers in a new academic chapter for the organization. Nationwide classes for the 2026 Academic Year of Sri Murugan Centre will start on 4th January 2026. Already, the preparation is going on to ensure that the learning experience remains enriching, structured, and relevant to the evolving educational needs. The coming term will focus heavily on strengthening academic performance, instilling strong values, and building essential life and future-ready skills in students.

With its latest initiative, Sri Murugan Centre continues to reinforce its role as a pillar of educational support within the Malaysian Indian community. The Centre remains committed to expanding opportunities, nurturing the next generation and ensuring that no deserving student is left behind. Through strengthened programmes, renewed motivation and the introduction of Thanthai Manam, the organisation enters the new academic year on a hopeful and determined note-one anchored in educational progress, community upliftment and long-lasting transformation.
