Training Teachers for Inclusive STEM in the Digital Age

    • Over 150 teachers trained to teach STEM to students with disabilities.
    • Programme benefits 10,000+ students across 134 inclusive schools in Malaysia.
    • Hands-on tools and digital content help make STEM engaging and accessible.

A nationwide initiative in Malaysia is equipping teachers with the tools and skills to make STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education more inclusive for students with disabilities.

Launched under the Future Skills For All (FS4A) Inclusivity Scale Up programme, the training has reached over 150 teachers from 134 inclusive schools since July 2024. These teachers are helping more than 10,000 students with disabilities gain access to quality digital education.

Led by Malaysia’s Ministry of Education through its Special Education Division (BPKhas) and supported by partners including UNICEF Malaysia, CelcomDigi, MDEC, and Arus Academy, the initiative offers practical and accessible tools for teaching.

Teachers receive hands-on training using a mix of online platforms, offline kits, and interactive dashboards. The content is gamified and designed to spark creativity while keeping lessons inclusive for students with various learning needs.

The programme encourages teachers to document and reflect on their classroom experience, helping refine and improve teaching practices for the future.

FS4A, which began in 2020, is available through the DELIMa learning platform and has already reached over 320,000 users.

Supporters of the programme believe it’s closing the digital divide. UNICEF Malaysia said it’s a 'catalyst for systemic change'. CelcomDigi called it a key step in giving all students equal access to tech. MDEC highlighted its role in building digital talent, while Arus Academy praised teachers’ dedication to improving their methods.
