United Arab Emirates education is also going to become a lot easier and less complicated for foreign students. Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has made regulations regarding recognition of qualifications from foreign Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Recognition processes for foreign higher education qualifications is in accordance with Zero Government Bureaucracy programme.
The guideline provides important conditions, such as checking the authenticity of the qualification, and ensuring that the issuing HEI is legally incorporated, licensed and accredited by the corresponding accreditation body in its country of origin.
These guidelines will simplify the recognition of foreign qualifications, saving time, effort, and documentation involved in the process while ensuring the validity of such qualifications.
The move came after the pilot launch was successful, which resulted in more than 70% decrease in requirements against the old system, and the number of students whose qualifications were recognised increased from 5,780 to 12,180 compared to the previous year.
The number of documents needed was cut from 14 to four, enhancing accessibility to recognition data and reducing declined requests from 8.3% to 3.5%, pilot launch statistics indicated.
Ahmad Ibrahim Alsaadi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Higher Education Operations Sector and Director of MoHESR's International Education Support and Scholarships Department said, "The new system cohesively interacts with a variety of local scholarship institutions to optimize the recognition of foreign qualifications on two standardised bases applicable across all specializations and universities. This enriches the graduate experience by facilitating easier certificate recognition for employment or pursuit of postgraduate studies".
