UAE Highlights Higher Ed to Attract Chinese Students

  • A delegation of UAE-based international education and political leaders attended the China International Education Exhibition Tour (CIEET) in Beijing earlier this month as part of an initiative to attract Chinese students to their institutions.

The group, led by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development (KHDA), included representatives from Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academics, the Dubai Department of Economics and Tourism (DET) and Dubai Chambers. The visit placed a spotlight on possibilities for Chinese students looking to pursue higher education from Dubai international universities, and representatives from the best institutions including Murdoch University Dubai were present.

The general manager of the university Mark Brown mentioned that the UAE already boasts an impressive number of over 40,000 Chinese residents, and many had originally come to the Emirates for work or business reasons.

Now we are witnessing an increasing number of Chinese students showing interest in studying in the UAE as an alternative to the conventional study destinations such as Australia, the UK, Canada, and the US", he says. "Numerous are lured by the UAE's image of safety and pleasant lifestyle, entrepreneurship and innovation, cultural diversity and multiculturalism, and career and work opportunities, in addition to being able to obtain an internationally accredited degree from one of the world's most vibrant cities".

With the visit to the expo marking the university's second in collaboration with the KHDA Study Dubai roadshow, Brown said the trip affirms its dedication to opening up new doors for Chinese students to pursue globally relevant degrees and career opportunities.

Australia and China have a long tradition of educational cooperation, so as an Australian university with a strong emphasis on transnational education and a world-class campus in Dubai, we want to build on that spirit of cooperation while showcasing all of the phenomenal strengths of international education in Dubai", he says. Chinese students also place a high value on quality, innovation, and future career prospects, and Dubai delivers on all three.
