The University of Antique has placed Western Visayas on the global academic map after representing the Philippines at the prestigious British Council Going Global Conference 2025 held in London, United Kingdom.

The university delegation was led by UA President Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr., joined by Dr. Jelyn O. Alentajan, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation, and Mr. Nicasio A. Pimentel III, faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences. The team joined education leaders and experts from various countries in discussions centered on global partnerships, academic collaboration, and innovations in higher education.

The Philippine delegation was also represented by high-ranking education officials consisting of Commission on Higher Education Commissioner Dr. Ricmar Aquino, CHED Region 6 Director Dr. Christine Nabor-Ferrer, the University of the Philippines President Atty. Angelo Jimenez, UP Los Banos Vice Chancellor Dr. Agham Cuevas, AACCUP President Dr. Anthony Penaso, and British Council Philippines Country Director Lotus Postrado.

During their visit to London, the UA representatives also made a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Teodoro 'Teddy Boy' Locsin Jr. at the Philippine Embassy. Their meeting included discussions on ongoing British Council initiatives and possible future collaborations in international education.

As a matter of its international linkages, the UA also established academic tie-ups with two prestigious British universities, namely Harper Adams University, the UK’s number one university in agriculture and forestry; and the University of Hertfordshire, widely regarded by the government as the country’s top teacher training university. These tie-ups are intended to make possible joint research, transnational education programs, and global classroom exchanges for the UA faculty and students.

Dr. Crespo pointed out that this is indicative of the university's increasing role in international academic cooperation. "We are committed to bringing the best global practices home to Antique and Western Visayas", he said. "This is one sure way of granting our students and communities access to world-class education and innovation".

The university said these achievements have been successfully possible because of the support provided by British Council Philippines under the leadership of Ms. Postrado, which also continues to forge strong partnership among Philippine and international higher education institutions. This will be a milestone for the region, proof that Western Visayas is ripe and is now ready to contribute its voice toward shaping the future of global education. From the quiet campuses of Antique to the international fora of London, this feat underscores the premise that excellence and innovation know no bounds.
