UTM Alumnus Launches Education Hub for Youth and Skills Growth

    Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong, a prominent alumnus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), has unveiled the TAR UMT Arena, a 1.5 million square foot education and innovation hub aimed at strengthening youth development and future-ready skills in Malaysia.

    The large-scale facility is designed to support higher education, innovation, and holistic student growth. Education leaders, industry representatives, and government officials attended the launch, underlining the project’s role in building Malaysia’s next generation of talent.

    Dr. Wee said the new hub reflects his long-standing belief that education plays a central role in national progress. The TAR UMT Arena is expected to provide modern spaces for learning, collaboration, and skills training, helping students better prepare for evolving job markets and industry needs.

    Dr. Wee previously served as Malaysia’s Minister of Transport from 2020 to 2022, where he guided major infrastructure and logistics systems through the COVID-19 period. He has also held key roles as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, supporting small and medium enterprises, and as Deputy Minister of Education, focusing on access and quality in learning.

    In late 2024, he was appointed as an investment adviser for the Chinese community in Malaysia, with a focus on the halal industry. This role highlights his ability to connect technical expertise with economic development and workforce growth.

    A double alumnus of UTM, Dr. Wee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Transportation Planning. He remains active in professional engineering bodies, including the Institution of Engineers Malaysia.

    The TAR UMT Arena stands as a symbol of Malaysia’s commitment to education-driven growth, skills development, and youth empowerment.
