Synopsis
Uzbekistan’s Fergana region has partnered with South Korea’s Seoul National University of Science and Technology to introduce joint programs in artificial intelligence and information technology. The initiative aims to strengthen digital skills, improve higher education, and prepare students for future technology careers.
Uzbekistan is taking another step toward strengthening its digital workforce through a new education partnership with South Korea. The Fergana region has announced plans to introduce joint academic programs with the Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech), focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT).
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Fergana regional governor Khayrullo Bozorov and SeoulTech President Dong Hwan Kim on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum. Representatives from South Korean technology company AHA Co., Ltd and a group of investors also participated in the discussions.
The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for students while helping universities align their programs with the evolving needs of the global job market. Officials focused on ways to strengthen educational cooperation, expand university partnerships, and develop highly skilled professionals for technology-driven industries.
A major outcome of the discussions was the proposal to launch joint degree and academic programs in AI and IT. These programs will be developed in collaboration with Fergana State Technical University and Kokand University, providing students with access to international learning opportunities and industry-relevant skills.
The initiative aims to equip graduates with the technical knowledge needed for careers in software development, artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and other high-demand sectors. As technology continues to reshape industries worldwide, universities are increasingly being called upon to prepare students for a rapidly changing employment landscape.
In addition to university-level programs, both sides discussed career guidance initiatives for school students. These efforts will help young learners better understand future education pathways and prepare for careers in emerging technology fields before entering higher education.
Another important area of cooperation is the connection between education, research, and industry. The partners explored opportunities to work closely with the Fergana branch of IT Park, one of Uzbekistan’s leading technology and innovation hubs.
Through this collaboration, students will gain greater exposure to practical learning experiences, industry projects, and modern digital technologies. The initiative is expected to strengthen training in software engineering, AI applications, and other technology-focused disciplines.
Investors participating in the discussions also proposed several programs designed to support innovation and entrepreneurship among students and young professionals. These include startup incubation programs, student grants, academic exchange opportunities, and dual-education models that combine classroom instruction with hands-on industry experience.
The dual-education approach is expected to play a key role in improving graduate employability by giving students real-world exposure alongside their academic studies. Many employers increasingly seek candidates who possess both technical knowledge and practical workplace skills.

The discussions extended beyond education and technology, with participants also exploring opportunities in manufacturing, business development, and sports partnerships. However, education and workforce development remained central to the collaboration.
The visit concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between SeoulTech, Fergana State Technical University, and the Fergana regional branch of IT Park. The agreement establishes a framework for long-term cooperation in higher education, digital skills development, research, and innovation.
As part of the initiative, AHA Co., Ltd executive Goo Ki-Do was appointed Special Advisor to the Governor of Fergana Region on artificial intelligence and digitalization, further reinforcing the region’s commitment to technology-driven growth.
With new academic programs, stronger university-industry partnerships, and expanded opportunities for students, the collaboration marks an important step in preparing Uzbekistan’s future workforce for careers in the digital economy.
