- The University of Hong Kong’s School of Computing and Data Science launched the GAIP Insurance Innovation Competition 2025, focusing on innovation in the insurance sector.

- The winning team will represent Hong Kong in the global final at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, with cash prizes up to USD 15,000 and opportunities to network with industry leaders.
The School of Computing and Data Science (CDS), The University of Hong Kong (HKU) organized the opening ceremony of the Global Asia Insurance Partnership (GAIP) Insurance Innovation Competition 2025. The ceremony officially kicked off this competition, which is focused on promoting innovation and strategic thinking in the insurance business.
Organized by CDS with the kind assistance of The Actuarial Society of Hong Kong (ASHK) and single-sponsored by Prudential Hong Kong, in 2025 the theme of the GAIP Insurance Innovation Competition (Hong Kong Station) is 'Insurance Innovation', which offers the opportunity for students to demonstrate their analytical, research, and presentation ability by submitting genuine innovations in the insurance industry.
The ceremony was presided over by renowned guests, such as Professor Yi Ma, Director of CDS, Ms Candy Au Yeung, Chief Customer Operations and Health Officer, Prudential Hong Kong, Mr Steve Hui, President, The Actuarial Society of Hong Kong (ASHK), Ms Jasmine Kwong, Communications and Committee Manager, Hong Kong Federation of Insurers and Dr Bowen Wong, Honourary Secretary, Life Underwriters Association of Hong Kong.
Professor Yi MA, expressed that the competition is a special chance for students to pilot-test their ideas, broaden their networks, and meet industry leaders. He said, "We are honored to organize the GAIP Insurance Innovation Competition at HKU for the first time, and it is also the inaugural student competition organized by our School since our formal opening last year, which represents an exciting milestone for us".
The GAIP Insurance Innovation Competition is a yearly competition organized by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Global Asia Insurance Partnership (GAIP) Organising Committee. There are two rounds in the competition: a local round being organized by partner university and a global final round organized in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. HKU is the host of the 2025 local and will invite talents from various universities. The winning group will represent Hong Kong and face other representatives of high-ranking universities in countries such as Australia, Indonesia, Japan, and Switzerland.
NTU said that "with HKU's involvement, the competition has become an international platform where emerging talents such as Hong Kong students can work on real-world problems under risk resilience and insurance. It is great to see the passion and creativity of the participants here today in Hong Kong.
The competition allows the students to present innovative solutions that can revolutionize the insurance sector. The submissions will be judged on the team's analysis, innovation and creativity, feasibility and implementation, and presentation and communication.

In addition, participants can win cash awards ranging from USD3,000 to USD15,000. Apart from prizes, participants will be provided with rich insights, network with business leaders, and improve their career opportunities. Registration is currently ongoing until 6 June 2025.
