The Indonesian government is expecting the Korea-ASEAN Digital Academy (KADA) program, rolled out Thursday, to be used in training and upgrading the capabilities of the country's digital talents.

"With the onset of the digital transformation era, cooperation and skill upgrade are no longer a plus; they are simply absolute necessities", Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria asserted here. The KADA Digital Academy program is not merely an educational project, he emphasized.

According to the website of the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund, the program aims to offer digital education and construct a sustainable educational system to facilitate digital capacity-building in the ASEAN region.

The ASEAN now has ten member states: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

The KADA program provides training in computer skills like programming, computing, and artificial intelligence technologies. "This is a 2.5-month program, and it's very competitive. From 160 applicants, only 60 are selected after fulfilling requirements," Patria told. Partners in the program will also assist participants in getting employment at both multinational and national corporations.

"From our discussions, the target is at least 50 percent of (the program) graduates can be absorbed by industry, and that will be complemented by their network", he said. Patria further explained that KADA is an expression of solidarity among ASEAN member states and South Korea.

"Simultaneously, we are also strengthening and more resilient connections between ASEAN nations and South Korea. We are constructing a bridge of partnership and knowledge that will be passed on for generations", he said.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs had previously collaborated with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to develop digital talent center infrastructure.
