- Cambodia and China sign MoU to strengthen technical and vocational training.
- Focus areas include modern curriculum, teacher training, and student exchanges.
- Supported by the ILO-China Partnership, the initiative promotes industry ready skills.
Cambodia and China have partnered to improve job skills for Cambodian youth through enhanced technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The Battambang Institute of Technology in Cambodia and Xiangyang Vocational College of Science and Technology in China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The virtual signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both institutions and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The agreement aims to build stronger education systems by upgrading curriculum, training teachers, and offering more student exchange opportunities. It will align vocational training with Cambodia’s industry needs, making graduates more job ready. The collaboration focuses on high demand sectors such as renewable energy, robotics, and intelligent manufacturing.
The initiative is part of the ILO-China Partnership Project and falls under the Belt and Road South-South Cooperation Network on Skills Development. The project brings global best practices to Cambodia, helping raise local TVET standards and improve employment outcomes.

Cao Qunying, President of Xiangyang Vocational College, stated that this partnership goes beyond paperwork, offering real tools like shared training resources and joint skills competitions to prepare Cambodian students for the global workforce. Teng Chenda, Director of Battambang Institute of Technology, called the MoU a major step in improving Cambodia’s vocational education sector.
Tian Feng, Project Manager of the ILO-China Partnership, emphasized that real results will come from hands on cooperation and implementation. Launched in 2019, the ILO-China initiative has already connected 41 institutions across Asia to boost skills training and industry collaboration. This new Cambodia-China partnership continues that mission, focusing on practical training, decent jobs, and long term development.
