Artificial intelligence is quickly reshaping China’s education system and ed-tech companies are racing to meet the moment. As AI becomes central to learning and skill-building, platforms like Gaotu Group are investing heavily in smart education solutions to prepare students for a tech-driven future.
Luo Bin, Co-Founder of Gaotu, said the integration of AI in education is not just a trend but a turning point. “There’s a growing need for AI-enhanced tools that match the evolving demands of students and institutions”, he said.
Gaotu recently partnered with Renmin University of China to launch a joint lab focused on AI smart education. The goal is to combine industry and academic expertise to improve deep learning and intelligent agent models in the classroom.
A major shift is underway. AI is no longer just for tech specialists, it's becoming a core subject in general education. According to a MyCos Institute survey, nearly 60% of Chinese university students now use generative AI tools regularly. Universities like Tsinghua and Renmin have introduced AI-focused degrees, general courses, and even AI literacy modules.

China’s Ministry of Education has pushed nationwide 'AI+ education' reforms, and cities like Beijing now mandate AI learning from primary to higher education. This movement aims to build critical thinking, digital literacy, and practical skills for future jobs.
Industry players like ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent are also joining the education race, aiming to capture the next generation of tech savvy professionals.
Luo added that universities must now balance structured curriculums with hands-on, project based AI learning to fully prepare students for real-world challenges.
