HDU and Hikvision Pioneer Industry-Integrated Education Model in China

    • HDU-Hikvision course bridges education and industry needs.
    • 331 HDU grads hired by Hikvision in 4 years.
    • Zhejiang policies boost employment-driven education.

Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) is gaining national recognition for bridging the gap between academia and industry through innovative talent cultivation programs. In 2022, HDU partnered with tech giant Hikvision to co-develop a hands-on course aimed at producing industry-ready graduates with real-world skills.

The course, jointly taught by enterprise experts and university faculty, covers critical fields such as computer systems, Linux, embedded systems, and computer vision. It integrates real R&D project cases and industrial equipment, enabling students to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. “This is a true partnership", said Lian Hongshuang, Hikvision’s head of campus recruitment. “We co-designed the curriculum to match actual workplace needs, significantly reducing the gap between education and employment”.

In just three years, the program has enrolled 148 students, with many top performers securing internships and jobs at Hikvision. Graduate Huang Xiansheng, now employed at the company, credited the course with preparing him for the challenges of the tech industry. Over the past four years, 331 HDU graduates from electronic information-related fields have joined Hikvision, many of whom are now driving innovation in AI, big data, and integrated systems.

This success is part of a broader initiative by the Zhejiang Provincial Government, which has made employment growth a public welfare priority for four consecutive years. “We used to chase companies for student placements. Now, they come to us to co-create talent pipelines”, said Lin Fei, Director of Academic Affairs at HDU.

HDU’s industry-driven education model, bolstered by supportive provincial policies, is emerging as a blueprint for high-quality, innovation-led employment in China
