The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has officially launched an AI Center of Excellence in South Jakarta, aimed at developing digital talent and expanding the application of artificial intelligence across sectors in Indonesia.
Speaking at the inauguration, Komdigi Deputy Minister Nezar Patria stated that the initiative is a key step in ensuring AI technology delivers broad-based benefits to the Indonesian public. The center was developed through a collaborative effort involving the government, universities, industries, and local communities. Major tech companies such as Nvidia, Cisco, and Indosat are also supporting the project.
Patria emphasized that the center is aligned with Indonesia’s digital transformation agenda and has been designed to meet national needs. It will offer high-performance computing power to facilitate AI research, innovation, and integration across public services and businesses.
Serving as a hub for domestic and global collaboration, the center is expected to play a crucial role in advancing the National AI Road Map, which outlines goals for AI development, including the creation and testing of prototypes in key sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture.
The roadmap also includes AI-related training, certification programs, and policy development. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting AI-focused start-ups and creating regulatory frameworks to ensure responsible and effective AI deployment.
Patria concluded that the initiative reflects the government’s ambition to create a sustainable digital ecosystem capable of driving inclusive growth through innovation.
