Lingnan University, welcomed more than 1,400 new undergraduate students for the 2025-26 academic year. Students from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and countries like Germany, Nepal, and South Korea joined the campus.
President Prof S. Joe Qin, addressed the newcomers. He encouraged them to use AI tools, including ChatGPT and DeepSeek, to support their studies. He said AI is reshaping future careers, and students should learn to adapt early.
Lingnan has seen major achievements in recent years. It ranked first globally for Quality Education (SDG 4) in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025. It also came first in Hong Kong for No Poverty (SDG 1). These are historic wins for a Hong Kong university.
The university also leads in student satisfaction and entrepreneurship among UGC funded institutions. Its innovation teams won 13 medals at the Silicon Valley International Inventions Festival and received top honours at the Geneva Invention Exhibition.

Campus facilities are expanding. The new Lingnan Education Organization Building is under construction. It will house the School of Data Science and new research hubs. The Lingnan HPC NexT Data Centre is now home to supercomputing power among the global top 100.
The orientation included campus tours, workshops, and guidance sessions. A Campus Life Carnival will follow on 4 September to help students connect and explore extracurricular activities.
President Qin urged students to stay curious, think critically, and make full use of the resources. He said Lingnan is committed to whole-person education and preparing students for the digital future.
