Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and Honor have collaborated to open the country's first AI Education Lab, with the hope of transforming Malaysian digital learning and research. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at UPSI Tanjong Malim Campus with Datuk Ahmad Shalimin Ahmad Shaffie, Chairman of Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, present during the ceremony.
The AI Education Lab will be based in the Tuanku Bainun Library and will act as a centre for artificial intelligence training and research. It is intended not just for UPSI students and staff but also for the broader public, providing access to cutting-edge, technology-based learning opportunities. This is an aspect of UPSI's vision to revolutionize higher education through the integration of an AI-driven learning method, positioning the university as Southeast Asia's leader in educational technology innovation.
The collaboration involves several collaborative activities, such as online teaching and learning, collaborative research and publication, industry exposure, academic mobility, consultancy services, and community outreach in the area of AI. These activities target the change of the higher education system and the development of students' skills to withstand an AI-driven future.

Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan, Chairman of UHSB Board of Directors, was optimistic that this project would make UPSI a leader not just in teacher training but also an education technology innovation center in Southeast Asia. The laboratory is projected to be completed shortly, which is a landmark development in Malaysian education.
This collaboration between UPSI and Honor highlights the increasing significance of artificial intelligence in education and the necessity for institutions to change with the times. Through its incorporation of AI in its curriculum and research programs, UPSI is being proactive in ensuring that its students and academics are well-positioned for the challenges and opportunities thrown up by the digital age.
As the AI Education Lab is being completed, it is expected to be an exemplar for other institutions within the region, showing how public-private partnerships can further educational innovation and excellence.
