MSU-IIT CCS Leads Global Digital Education at SCI-2026

    • CCS presents digital citizenship research at SCI-2026 Hanoi
    • Aligns with SDGs 4, 9, 16; publishes in Springer LNNS
    • Advances responsible online engagement via computational methods

The College of Computer Studies (CCS) at Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) made a strong international mark by participating in the prestigious 8th International Conference on Smart Computing and Informatics (SCI-2026), held April 28-29, 2026, in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Under the theme 'Smart Computing for Human Development and a Sustainable World', the event drew global experts to explore multidisciplinary advances in smart computing, informatics, artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainability-driven solutions for societal, environmental, and industrial challenges.

Representing CCS, faculty members presented groundbreaking research titled 'Building Sustainable Digital Citizens: A Computational Approach to Understanding Responsible Online Engagement in a Philippine University'. Delivered by Paul B. Bokingkito Jr., with co-authors Mia Amor C. Tinam-isan, January F. Naga, and Redeemtor R. Sacayan, the study delves into behavioral and computational aspects of responsible digital engagement among MSU-IIT students.

It argues that digital citizenship education must evolve from mere awareness to capability-building, encapsulated in the insight, 'values drive commitment, but self-efficacy drives action'.

This work directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 4 (Quality Education) via enhanced digital literacy and responsible online behavior; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through its human-technology interaction lens; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting ethical digital participation.

The paper is set for publication in Springer’s esteemed Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems (LNNS) series, amplifying its global reach.

SCI-2026, organized by collaborators including Swinburne University of Technology, FPT University, Parul University, Malla Reddy University, Springer Nature, Open RAG AI, Newgen Research Consultancy, Asia University, and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, underscored CCS's dedication to research excellence, international partnerships, and smart computing for sustainable development.

This participation elevates MSU-IIT's profile in global academia, fostering collaborations that address pressing digital citizenship needs in the Philippines and beyond.
