SK Shieldus to Strengthen Cybersecurity Across Korean Universities

  • Synopsis
SK Shieldus has partnered with the Korea Education Information Foundation and Escape Solution to enhance cybersecurity across universities in South Korea. The initiative will provide AI-powered threat monitoring, security services, and cybersecurity expertise to help institutions create safer learning and research environments.

South Korean cybersecurity company SK Shieldus has launched a new initiative to strengthen cybersecurity across universities nationwide. The company has signed a three-party memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Education Information Foundation and cybersecurity firm Escape Solution to help educational institutions tackle growing digital threats.

The partnership aims to improve security standards at around 360 universities that are members of the Korea Education Information Foundation. As cyberattacks become more advanced in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), the organizations plan to provide universities with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to protect academic systems, research data, and personal information.

Under the agreement, SK Shieldus and Escape Solution will share the latest information on cyber threats and vulnerabilities with participating universities. The partners will also collaborate on security solutions and awareness programs to encourage the adoption of stronger cybersecurity practices across campuses.

A major focus of the initiative is helping universities strengthen their digital infrastructure while supporting teaching, learning, and research activities. Universities often operate open network environments that allow collaboration and information sharing, making them attractive targets for cybercriminals. The new partnership seeks to address these challenges through tailored security services.

SK Shieldus will provide a range of cybersecurity solutions, including Managed Detection and Response (MDR), Attack Surface Management (ASM), penetration testing, and security consulting. These services are designed specifically for university environments and will help institutions identify vulnerabilities and respond to threats more effectively.

The company will use its AI-powered security operations center, Secudium, to provide continuous monitoring throughout the year. The platform will support a 24/7/365 security monitoring system capable of detecting suspicious activities at an early stage. SK Shieldus will also work closely with its incident response team, Topcert, to investigate threats and support rapid response efforts when security incidents occur.

Beyond technology deployment, the three organizations plan to establish a close cooperation framework that includes sharing threat intelligence and jointly developing security policies. Their goal is to systematically improve cybersecurity standards across education and research institutions.

The initiative comes at a time when universities worldwide are facing increasing cyber risks. Academic institutions hold valuable research data, intellectual property, and sensitive personal information, making them frequent targets for ransomware attacks, account theft, unauthorized access, and data breaches.

As part of its broader efforts to support the higher education sector, SK Shieldus will participate in the 2026 Education Informatization Conference, scheduled to take place from June 10 to June 12. The event is expected to bring together around 500 university IT and security professionals.

During the conference, the company will share practical strategies for addressing AI-driven cyber threats. Topics will include account theft targeting academic systems, unusual access attempts, data exfiltration incidents, and the use of technologies such as Extended Detection and Response (XDR) and AI-based anomaly detection systems. The company will also discuss how universities can maintain a round-the-clock cybersecurity posture through MDR services.

Kim Byung-mu, Vice President and Head of Cybersecurity at SK Shieldus, highlighted the importance of stronger security systems in higher education. “Universities are places where core research results and sensitive personal information are concentrated, making the need to advance security systems even greater,” he said. He added, “By combining cybersecurity monitoring and response capabilities with AI technology, we will provide services optimized for university environments and help create safe and reliable learning and research settings”.

With universities increasingly relying on digital platforms for education, research, and administration, the partnership reflects a growing focus on cybersecurity skills, digital resilience, and the protection of academic communities in an AI-driven world.
