Sri Lanka Launches First AI Engineering Degree for Future Skills

    • Sri Lanka introduces its first AI-integrated engineering degree to prepare future tech leaders
    • The program focuses on advanced engineering, artificial intelligence, and next-generation technical skills
    • Students will gain hands-on industry exposure through internships, research projects, and real-world technology collaboration

SLT-MOBITEL has partnered with University of Peradeniya to launch Sri Lanka’s first AI-integrated engineering degree, marking a major step in preparing students for future technology careers. The new Bachelor of Science of Engineering Honours in Electronic and Intelligent Systems Engineering will begin in August 2026. The program is designed to combine electronics engineering with artificial intelligence to train students for the next generation of intelligent technologies.

The degree will equip students with skills in AI, embedded systems, automation, robotics, cloud-based AI, quantum computing, and sustainable technology. The program focuses strongly on practical learning. Students will take part in project-based assignments, industrial training, and research initiatives to build hands-on experience and strengthen job readiness. To support advanced learning, the university is also building high-performance AI infrastructure, including a PFLOPS-class GPU cluster at its engineering faculty.

As the university’s technology partner, SLT-MOBITEL will contribute its expertise in AI, digital transformation, and large-scale technology deployment. The company will support internships, applied research projects, and collaborative innovation initiatives. The partnership builds on SLT-MOBITEL’s long-term efforts to strengthen higher education in Sri Lanka through digital infrastructure development, e-learning support, and technology collaborations with universities.
