- UAE is investing heavily in Africa's digital education through the 'Digital School' initiative to combat unemployment and prepare youth for the future workforce.
- The initiative, led by Senior Advisor Menghestab Haile, has already seen agreements with over 10 African countries and aims to cover the entire continent.
- The UAE’s program focuses not only on digital education but also on skills development to ensure sustainable growth for African youth.
Menghestab Haile, Senior Advisor to the UAE's 'Digital School' initiative in Africa, confirmed that the UAE is investing a lot in the growth of digital education on the African continent, with the aim of preparing youngsters for a future more dependent on digital expertise, in addition to helping to ease unemployment levels.
In a remark to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) aside from the World Government Summit in Dubai, Haile pointed out that the greatest challenge Africa faces today is providing opportunities for employment and gearing up the next generation for the labor market. He stressed that without better digital education, youth would not be ready for the requirements of the future.
He noted that the UAE has been able to accomplish this domestically and is placing emphasis on assisting the African continent through the Digital School program. Haile described that the on-the-ground efforts of the initiative are already starting to yield dividends, with a number of memorandums of understanding signed with education ministries in multiple African nations. "We already have over 10 African countries that have signed agreements, and our goal is to cover the entire continent", he said.
Haile confirmed that the initiative is not limited to digital education alone but also includes skills development, reflecting the UAE's vision to combine education with capacity building to ensure a better future for African youth. He also underlined the opening of a new skills development programme in partnership with the UAE government.
