The British Embassy Manila and the Department of Education (DepEd) are strengthening their collaboration to expand the role of education technology (EdTech) in the Philippines. Supported by the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and implemented by EdTech Hub, the partnership aims to improve foundational learning while helping build a more resilient and digitally capable education system.
Officials from both sides emphasized that the effort is not just about introducing technology, but ensuring it is used in ways that are practical, inclusive, and grounded in evidence.
A key part of the initiative is the development of the country’s National EdTech Policy, which is being shaped in close coordination with DepEd’s Bureau of Learning and Delivery. The project includes piloting policy components in real school settings and building strong monitoring and evaluation systems to measure effectiveness.

Funded through the ASEAN-UK Supporting the Advancement of Girls’ Education programme, the work highlights the importance of equitable access, especially for underserved learners, ensuring that no student is left behind in the digital shift.
The partnership also addresses the growing need for climate resilience in education by studying how schools can sustain learning continuity during disruptions like extreme weather events. In addition, DepEd is taking part in the AI Observatory Ministry of Education AI Challenge, where efforts are underway to explore artificial intelligence in education and strengthen AI capacity within the system.
Together, these initiatives reflect a shared commitment to improving learning outcomes and making education systems across Southeast Asia more adaptive and future-ready.
