The Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT Sri Lanka) continues to strengthen its position as one of the country’s leading providers of international higher education, building on a nearly 25-year partnership with the University of Staffordshire in the United Kingdom. Established in 1999, APIIT Sri Lanka’s collaboration with Staffordshire University has been central to its academic journey and was recognised as a case study in the UK Quality Assurance Agency’s Country Report in 2020, highlighting the robustness and consistency of the partnership.

Over the years, APIIT Sri Lanka has evolved into a purpose-driven, value-centred institution with a strong focus on inspiring a love for learning among students. A senior spokesperson from APIIT Sri Lanka said the institution’s growth has been guided by its commitment to quality, relevance and student outcomes. “Our long-standing partnership with the University of Staffordshire has allowed us to deliver globally benchmarked education while remaining deeply connected to the needs of Sri Lankan students and employers”, the spokesperson said.

Today, APIIT Sri Lanka operates campuses in Colombo and Kandy, catering to a student population of nearly 3,000, with an annual intake of about 1,500 students. It is recognised as one of the largest providers of foreign undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in the country. Since its inception, the institution has produced more than 5,000 graduates from Staffordshire University across disciplines such as Business, Computing and Law. According to APIIT Sri Lanka, over 90 percent of its graduates secure gainful employment within three months of completing their studies, reflecting the strong industry relevance of its programmes.

Beyond its flagship partnership with Staffordshire University, APIIT Sri Lanka has expanded its international collaborations to offer students multiple global pathways. It partners with NCUK to deliver internationally recognised pathway programmes, enabling students to progress to more than 60 universities across seven countries. In the field of professional education, APIIT Sri Lanka works with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales to deliver study programmes leading to globally recognised accountancy qualifications.

The institution also maintains direct articulation agreements with Southern Cross University in Australia and a partnership with the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, providing students with additional options for international exposure and academic mobility. An academic leader at APIIT Sri Lanka noted that these partnerships are designed to give students flexibility and choice. “Our aim is to ensure that students have access to world-class education and diverse progression routes, without compromising on academic rigour or employability”, the official said.

APIIT Sri Lanka will also be part of the EDEX Expo 2026, Sri Lanka’s largest education exhibition and job fair, which will be held from January 16 to 18 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo, and on January 24 and 25 at the Kandy City Centre in Kandy. The 2026 edition marks the 22nd year of EDEX since its inception and is expected to attract thousands of students, parents and educators.

As Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape becomes increasingly global and competitive, APIIT Sri Lanka’s sustained focus on international partnerships, quality assurance and graduate outcomes continues to position it as a key player in shaping the future of education in the country.
