South Korea Opens Education Centre in India

    • Strengthens Korean language education, skill development, and academic exchange in India
    • Supports student mobility, teacher training, and institutional collaboration under the Study Korea 300K initiative
    • Aims to improve employability, people-to-people ties, and long-term education and career pathways between India and Korea

New Delhi marked a new chapter in India-Korea education ties as the Republic of Korea opened its first-ever Korea Education Centre (KEC) in India on January 15, 2026. The New Delhi centre aims to expand Korean language learning, strengthen teacher support, and create clearer academic and career pathways for Indian students interested in studying and working in Korea.

With this launch, India joins Korea’s global education network of 47 Korea Education Centres across 22 countries. These centres act as hubs for language training, academic collaboration, and international student recruitment. The New Delhi KEC aligns closely with Korea’s 'Study Korea 300K' strategy, which targets attracting 300,000 international students to Korean universities by strengthening outreach and skill-based education overseas.

The centre will support Korean language education for Indian learners and overseas Koreans, assist schools and universities with curriculum and teacher training, and guide students on higher education opportunities in Korea. By promoting language skills and academic exchange, the KEC also aims to improve employability in sectors such as technology, manufacturing, culture, and global services where Korea has a strong presence.

Senior officials from Korea’s Ministry of Education, the Korean Embassy in India, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and the Korean Association in India attended the inauguration, highlighting the importance of education as a long-term driver of bilateral cooperation.

In a message shared at the event, Korea’s Education Minister Choi Gyo-jin described the centre as an investment in trust, skills, and people-to-people ties. He emphasized that education builds sustainable partnerships over time and recalled the long-standing cultural and historical links between India and Korea.

The New Delhi Korea Education Centre is expected to become a key platform for skill development, academic exchange, and job-ready global education between the two countries.
