- Assam launches foreign language training to boost youth employability
- First batch of 180 students to learn Japanese with job support
- Programme focuses on language, culture, and career readiness
The Assam government has launched a new education initiative to train young people in foreign languages, starting with Japanese. The programme, titled the Chief Minister’s Foreign Languages Initiative for Global Human Talent, was officially launched by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati.
In the first phase, 180 youths will receive training in the Japanese language, along with cultural education, job placement assistance, and financial support. The goal is to prepare them for global employment opportunities, especially in countries like Japan.
"This initiative is our gateway to global careers," Sarma said, adding that the scheme will make Assam's youth job-ready for international workplaces, particularly in fields such as healthcare, construction, and food services.
Training will be conducted at the North East Skill Centre in Guwahati, in collaboration with international partners ASEAN ONE Co. Ltd., Jaceex Ventures LLP, and Meiko Career Partners Co. Ltd. The Assam and Japanese governments will jointly bear most of the training costs, significantly reducing the financial burden on students.

Sarma said the initiative will also strengthen India-Japan ties and expand Assam's role in global workforce development. Talks are underway to introduce more languages and collaborations with other international partners in the near future.
The programme aims not only to build language skills but also to develop cultural understanding and workplace readiness, helping Assam’s youth tap into global job markets with confidence.
