CBSE Announces Alternate Assessment For Class 12 In West Asia

    • Central Board of Secondary Education cancelled Class 12 board exams 2026 in several West Asian countries and introduced an alternative evaluation scheme.
    • Students with incomplete exams will be assessed using school-based performance (quarterly, half-yearly, pre-board), while completed papers will be marked normally.
    • Compartment exams and possible re-exams are planned, ensuring fairness and continuity for affected students.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced a new alternative assessment scheme for Class 12 students in West Asian countries after cancelling all CBSE board exams 2026 scheduled between March 16 and April 10 due to extraordinary circumstances. The decision affects students in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

According to CBSE, students who completed all their exams will receive results based on their actual performance. For those with incomplete papers, marks will be calculated using school-based assessments, including quarterly, half-yearly, and pre-board exam results. Previously recorded practical exam marks and internal assessments will remain unchanged.

The board has also outlined subject-wise marking schemes, with theory and practical weightage varying across subjects. Schools have been directed to upload student performance data to the CBSE portal within the specified April timeline, after which the marks will be treated as final under the revised CBSE evaluation policy.

CBSE clarified that compartment exam students and those dissatisfied with their results will have further opportunities. Compartment exams 2026 are scheduled for July, and students may also be allowed to appear for re-examinations, subject to feasibility.

To ensure transparency in evaluation, schools must securely maintain all academic records, including answer sheets, for possible verification. The board has warned that failure to comply with the guidelines could lead to cancellation of results or other action.

The policy is designed to ensure that students in affected regions are not disadvantaged in higher education admissions or future career opportunities. Sanyam Bhardwaj said the approach focuses on fairness, reliability, and adaptability in response to ongoing international challenges.
