China Boosts Global Ties to Reform Engineering Education

    • China calls for international cooperation in engineering education
    • Pushes for unified global standards and modern teaching models
    • Signs new partnerships with universities across five continents

China is stepping up efforts to strengthen international collaboration in engineering education. At the Second International Conference for Training Excellent Engineers held in Beijing, Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng highlighted China’s commitment to working with global partners to reform and modernize engineering education.

Huai proposed three key initiatives, developing internationally recognized standards for engineering education, introducing innovative teaching models for the intelligent technology era, and building an open and inclusive global cooperation network.

He said China’s experience in engineering education especially its focus on practical training and technology integration can serve as a reference for global reforms. China currently has the world’s largest engineering education system, with over nine million students enrolled, and continues to invest heavily in the sector.

During the event, the China Association for Science and Technology and the China Engineering Education Accreditation Association signed a joint statement with the International Engineering Alliance. The agreement aims to set unified global standards for master's and doctoral engineering programs, helping to train top-tier talent capable of addressing global challenges like climate change and AI transformation.
