CIAP-PDCB, PAES Partner to Elevate Engineering Education Standards

    • CIAP-PDCB and PAES sign MOU to integrate CIAP Document 102 into engineering school curricula, enhancing contract literacy among future engineers.
    • PDCB Executive Director Doris Gacho & PAES President Romano Neyra lead the collaboration, focusing on faculty training and curriculum development.
    • Partnership aims to bridge academic-industry gaps in engineering education, aligning national priorities in infrastructure and educational standards.

In a major move towards the betterment of engineering education in the Philippines, the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP), its implementing arm Philippine Domestic Construction Board (PDCB), and the Philippine Association of Engineering Schools (PAES) have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for incorporating industry-standard contract practice into curricula in engineering schools.

PDCB Executive Director Doris U. Gacho and PAES President Romano Q. Neyra presided at the MOU signing held in Makati City. The two organizations vowed at collaborative effort involving training faculty personnel, course content development, and monitoring the effectiveness of integration of CIAP Document 102 (or the Uniform General Conditions of Contract for Private Construction) into academic curricula.

The collaboration focuses on promoting and endorsing the inclusion of CIAP Document 102 in the curricula of PAES member school engineering programs. The accord acknowledges the value in providing future engineers with a strong understanding of construction contract administration, standards for project implementation, and risk management. Under the partnership, PDCB shall have training sessions with deans and faculty members of member schools of PAES that shall address relevant topics in construction contracts and CIAP Document 102 to allow the participating educators to frame complementary course modules. PAES shall, in return, promote its member schools to use the revised curricula and submit continuous feedback on its implementation and effect.

In addition, through this partnership, PAES and PDCB strive to close the gap between new schools of engineering and traditional institutions of learning, ensuring a more integrated and balanced push for engineering education across the country. CIAP-PDCB and PAES both envision this project as a template of how the government and academia can collaborate to further national priorities in education and infrastructure.
