Philippine's First IC Design Flexible Learning Platform Debuts at Colegio de Muntinlupa

    • Xinyx Design formally launched LABS by Xinyx, the Philippines' first premium flexible IC Design and Microelectronics learning platform.
    • The inauguration at Colegio de Muntinlupa was attended by top officials including Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon and TESDA Deputy Director General Nelly Dillera.
    • LABS by Xinyx addresses the IC Design skills gap, aligning with President Marcos Jr.'s 2024 directive to boost the semiconductor industry.

One of the biggest fabless IC design houses in Southeast Asia, Xinyx Design formally launched LABS by Xinyx at the engineering school Colegio de Muntinlupa (CDM), presenting the Philippines' very first flexible premium learning platform with a specific concentration on Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and Microelectronics.

The inauguration was attended by Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon, CDM President Dr. Teresita Fortuna, DTI-BOI Director Corieh Dichosa, TESDA Deputy Director General Nelly Dillera, and delegates from the Private Sector Advisory Council, Asian Development Bank, and various academic institutions interested in or already providing IC Design education throughout the nation.

Muntinlupa is quickly becoming a main cradle of future microelectronics engineers in Metro Manila. The city is putting itself on the map as a place of innovation and learning in microelectronics, with projects such as LABS by Xinyx further solidifying its place. Having 13 microelectronics firms sets the stage for intense collaboration between industry and academia. Colegio de Muntinlupa also has an important role to play in establishing a solid education and hands-on training required by future engineers through its industry-level microelectronics labs. Muntinlupa City will be able to generate a new crop of highly trained engineers who can address the increasing needs of the world's technology industry.

LABS by Xinyx complements the classical BS Electronics Engineering program and provides an alternative route for senior high school students, university students, STEM graduates, teachers, and professionals to receive hands-on training, professional mentorship, and globally relevant coursework in IC Design. Learning is conducted via flexible platforms online, on-campus, or blended so that learners with diverse backgrounds can acquire practical engineering expertise oriented to today's industry needs.

"LABS by Xinyx is the Philippines' first premium, flexible IC Design and Microelectronics platform. It's created to bridge the skills gap that hinders our semiconductor industry's growth," stated Charade Avondo, President of Xinyx Design.

It is the new focused solution of the company that answers directly President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s 2024 directive for prior development of the semiconductor and electronics industry. There remains a lack of IC Design skills locally, partly because curricula are outdated and there is limited access to specialized higher education training.

Avondo declared that multinationals in the US and Europe are lauding Filipino employees, including engineers, as creative, innovative, and resilient. "Filipino engineers are already recognized leaders in R&D working overseas. It's time that we harness that kind of innovation here in the Philippines", Avondo said.

IC Design is an essential but underappreciated part of the world semiconductor value chain, driving and facilitating innovation in AI, aerospace, healthcare, renewable energy, automotive technology, defense, and beyond. By supporting local talent growth and guiding young engineers toward this promising and profitable career, LABS by Xinyx puts the Philippines on the map not only as a strong electronics manufacturing location but also as a design-driven innovation hub.
