- DepEd aligns with national AI strategy to improve education and skills.
- New center helps teachers and students adopt AI responsibly.
- Digital programs enhance learning, exams, and school planning.
The Department of Education (DepEd) is stepping up efforts to make Philippine schools more AI-ready. On February 26, it welcomed the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Center for Research and Innovation (NAICRI), led by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The initiative aims to strengthen the country’s AI ecosystem while supporting teachers, students, and school systems. DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that AI will be used to close learning gaps, improve school management, and support teachers all with safeguards, transparency, and human oversight.
NAICRI will serve as a central hub for AI research, shared technology, and innovation in education and other priority sectors. The center complements DepEd’s ongoing work on digital tools, workforce development, and ethical governance in schools.

DepEd is already using AI in multiple ways: Project TALINO provides real-time data on school needs; Project DUNONG automates exams for school leaders; and Project SALIKSEEK allows personnel to quickly access structured education data. These programs aim to make learning more efficient, improve skills, and prepare students for future jobs.
Through NAICRI and these AI initiatives, DepEd hopes to equip students and educators with the tools and skills needed for a rapidly changing digital world.
