A young scholar from Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Bolaji Fakorede, has been awarded the prestigious doctoral scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service for the 2026/2027 academic session, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey. Fakorede, who holds a Master of Science degree in Soil Science and Land Resources Management from FUOYE, currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in the same department, where he has actively contributed to teaching and research initiatives.
The scholarship was granted following a rigorous international selection process under the DAAD Doctoral Programmes in Germany, which evaluates candidates based on academic excellence, research potential, and recommendations from expert committees. During his postgraduate studies at FUOYE, Fakorede conducted his research under the mentorship of respected soil science scholars, A. S. Fasina and T. S. Babalola, whose guidance played a pivotal role in shaping his academic growth and research acumen.
The award will enable Fakorede to pursue advanced research training in Germany, focusing on environmental sustainability and land management in the context of climate change. His proposed doctoral research, titled 'Assessing Land Management Vulnerability and Sustainability under Climate Change in Nigeria: A Modeling Approach', aims to investigate the impact of climate change on land management systems in Nigeria. The study will assess the vulnerability of agricultural land resources and propose sustainable land-use strategies using advanced modelling techniques, combining scientific rigor with practical relevance.
