GHIT Fund and TSRI Partner to Advance Disease Research and Education

    • GHIT Fund and TSRI will co-fund research on malaria, tuberculosis, NTDs, and other infectious diseases with pandemic potential.
    • The partnership aims to boost research ecosystems in Thailand and Japan, accelerating the development of drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics.
    • New funding will support Thai universities, research institutes, and global partners working on global health challenges in Thailand.

The Global Health Innovative Technology (GHIT) Fund and Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen their collaboration in addressing infectious diseases. Their partnership will focus on co-funding research projects aimed at developing drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics for diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Since its launch in 2013, the GHIT Fund has invested heavily in global health R&D, supporting over 140 projects with a total investment of 40 billion yen. TSRI, a government agency under Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, plays a key role in driving research and innovation in the country.

The partnership will promote product development for infectious diseases, improve research ecosystems in both nations, and offer joint workshops and networks for knowledge sharing. These efforts aim to accelerate progress in tackling global health challenges, leveraging Thailand’s expertise in parasitic and infectious disease research.

The new partnership opens additional funding opportunities for Thai universities, research institutes, and global collaborators. GHIT Fund continues to serve as a bridge between Japanese pharmaceutical companies, universities, and global research institutions, fostering further advancements in global health.
